Spotlight On – BearHugs

Next up for the Spotlight On feature is the amazing BearHugs.

I’ve been keen to share more information about this wonderful social enterprise for many reasons. Firstly, they were the first business I contacted about the Shop Kind Club to say ‘yes’, making them the first ever member. We, as a family, were also the lucky recipients of a BearHug through the charity Post Pals while Hugo was having treatment for Leukaemia. I’ve been following them every since and sending hugs of my own along the way.

BearHugs was inspired by a thoughtful package sent to Faye (chief sender of Hugs) when she was very unwell. Faye saw firsthand how one small act of the kindness has the potential to make a big difference. Despite still being affected by her health, Faye set about trying to help others do what her friend had done for her – essentially, send a great big hug through the post. Faye contacted The Prince’s Trust who helped turn her idea into a business that could work around her health. Since then BearHugs has gone from strength to strength. Faye has a wonderful team and their hard work has been recognised with a number of awards.

Finally, as if that’s not enough, they do much more than send hugs. For every fifty BearHugs sold, they donate one personalised ‘Hug in a Box’ to someone affected by serious illness through their charity partners. They offer inclusive, part-time, flexible and accessible employment for people living with chronic illness and are a proud disability confident employer. They also support independent businesses, working with talented, local, independent and Prince’s Trust-supported workers. They really are Hugs that go further!
